The PROCESS

Grease Trek has been created in the digital realm on a Sony VAIO. The live action was shot on mini-DV (Panasonic Palmcorder PVDC252) in front of a blue screen for 95% of the movie. The backgrounds and props were created in Adobe Photoshop 6.0 and Ulead Cool 3-D 3.5, and were animated and composited with live action in Adobe Aftereffects 5.0. Every frame in Grease Trek was altered in some way in Aftereffects. The finished footage was then edited in Adobe Premiere 5.0.

Principal bluescreen photography took place over the summer of 2003. The visuals took a year and a half to finish compositing and was complete December of 2004.

Original sound effects and music were created in Sonic Forge and Cubase, and placed in the timeline over a period of five months from January to May of 2005. Final mixing took place in June of 2005.

Note: No redshirts were actually harmed while filming this movie.

Evolution of the
Frank & Frys exterior

The interior of the Frank & Frys was created in Adobe Photoshop, and assembled in AfterEffects. The tables were created in Uline Cool 3-D and bluescreened into the final shots.

Live props were also shot and combined into the final scene with masking and steam effects. This hot dog vat is in reality about 3 inches tall.

All of the actors were shot in front of a bluescreen and combined with digital elements.

Copyrite-free photos were prepped in Photoshop and animated in final scenes combined with smoke and blur effects.
