After telling my father I was going golfing, he asked me if I was going to walk the course or use a cart. I told him I could get more beer in a cart.
He said "Well don't get caught drunk driving ..."
I responded,
"Yeah, I can just see the next days paper..."
Man Arrested in
Golf Cart Mishap
A 49-year old Winnetka man was arrested today at Balboa Golf Course for what officials have called the worst alcohol related golf cart crash in course history.
Daniel Shannon was arrested after coming down the slight incline behind the 9th hole in what was described as "an unsafe speed" and failed to negotiate a turn.
Horrified onlookers watched as the cart careened out of control nearly hitting an elderly couple ordering hot dogs at the small concession stand and sending others diving out of the way, tossing aside their equipment and food. The golf cart was said to have completed two entire 360-degree spins and hitting a tree before coming to rest on its side.
As Mr. Shannon walked away from the accident, his spilled beer dripped onto the electrical system of the golf cart causing a small explosion and electrical fire. Course stewards quickly extinguished the blaze.
Several people were treated for minor injuries at the scene while other were taken to local hospitals and later released.
Mr. Shannon was charged with driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, failing to stop and aggravated mayhem in a public place. He was released on his own recognizance after signing a promise to appear in court in two weeks.
